Need A Travel Agent

We want to take a fall family vacation, but have no idea where to go. Wes has time off and it's a use-it-or-lose-it sort of thing. So unless we can figure out a place to go, we'll be wasting his time off here at the house. No fun. Especially for me, who is "here at the house" all the time.

Help me. We talked about Gatlinburg. He's been there, I haven't. I don't know anything about the place, other than there's Dollywood and some sort of apple orchard we could go to. Have you been? Would you recommend my family of four going?

Where's somewhere else? It needs to be family friendly, within a reasonable day's drive, and fun. Those are our requirements.

So whatcha got?

we went to gatlinburg on our honeymoon, was a lot of fun. they have a Ripley's Aquarium, they have a waterpark beside Dollywood, there is an AWESOME outlet mall....Tanger's maybe?? Lots of family friendly stuff, we went for my niece's 3rd bday party and there was a petting zoo somewhere...I can ask my SIL about it, I am sure she remembers. I am sure there is a Gatlinburg tourism website.

When is his time off? If it is in the Fall, St. Louis is so much fun. It's about 7 hours from here & there is a TON to do with kids. Most of it is TOTALLY FREE and I can give you all the info. There are lots of museums, a great Six Flags (with a really great kids area that JA & Jack could ride on everything...without you riding on a thing!), the Arch, a Pumpkin Patch with rides, pony rides, apple orchards, the best Zoo EVER (it's free too & it was built for a World's fair, so all of the buildings are really old and so beautiful). There is a Science Center, the Budwiser..wait, not family friendly..hahah...
Purina Farms, The Magic House (my kids personal fav)
I really could go on and on...
anyway, we love St. Louis and not many people think to go there on vaca but it is super fun and my kids beg to go, year round...

My suggestion was going to be St. Louis. It's been a long time since I was in Gatlinburg. But, we go to St. Louis EVERY summer, because my sister lives there. The kids LOVE it. So much to do and mostly free. The zoo is my favorite. You could almost spend two full days there. Grant's farm is so fun. The kid's museum is a lot of fun. Anyway, tons to do and not too bad of a drive. Glad to see I'm not the only one that loves St. Louis. :)

Chattanooga is great too. They have the aquarium and a fabulous interactive kids museum. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge has Dixie Stampede where you eat with your hands and the kids would love that. Branson is supposed to be great too. They have a lot of rides and it's all shaded. My boss said if you have small children...you have to do that at least once. They have great outlets there too.
